Symmetry and Congruence with Geoboards!

After a lesson on congruence and symmetry, the kids paired up.  With their partners, they created 2D shapes on their geoboards that were congruent, symmetrical, not congruent, or not symmetrical.

2D Shapes Race!

The kids had a list of shapes to make on their Geoboards using rubber bands.  We love geoboards!

Hawaiian Book Fair

We "hula-ed" our Books of the Bible song today since we were in the Hawaiian Book Fair Spirit.

Studying Rocks and Minerals

We used hand lenses to examine different types of rocks.

Fraction of the Pizza!

The kids followed directions on how to "make a pizza".  Their directions included steps such as "put pepperoni on half of your pizza, put olives on 1/8 of your pizza", etc.

Third Grade Won the Six Flags Reading Contest!

Third grade read the most minutes for the Six Flags Reading Contest!  Our prize was a banana split party.  Yum!  Thank you, Mrs. Hamilton!

Fruit Loop Fractions!

Each child received 12 fruit loops of different colors.  They then figured out the answers to the fractions questions based on their fruit loop colors.  We then had fun eating them... "you may now eat 1/6 of your fruit loops"  "you may eat 1/4 of your fruit loops" etc.  It was a fun and yummy way to practice fractions!

How Much Sugar?

During our health and nutrition unit in Science, we learned how to read food labels.  In this activity, we looked at how many grams of sugar are in a variety of different drinks.  Because a gram is about the amount of a paperclip, we counted out a paperclip for each gram of sugar in each drink.  Sunkist was the worst offender with 43 grams.

Painting Under Our Desks Like Michelangelo!

During our study of the Renaissance, we learned about how Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel on his back for TWO years!  We taped paper under the kids' desks, and they painted while lying on their backs.  It wasn't too long before the kids began to appreciate what Michelangelo had to go through.  "It's dripping on me!"  "This is hard!" and "My arm hurts!" were phrases that started being said before too long.  Their finished paintings are in the hall for you to come take a look at.  =)

Bluebonnet Brunch!

The kids were invited to attend the Bluebonnet Brunch if their read 5 or more nominated Bluebonnet Books and then voted on their favorite.  Our whole class was invited!  They ate all blue food!

Blue tongues!

The book Origami Yoda won the Bluebonnet Award.  Mrs. Hamilton asked kids to come up and give their best Yoda voice.  Major won!
